Partnering With Your Horse

"Working with horse and rider to create a partnership that brings the joy back into riding!"

A horse is sent off for training by their loving owner, and that horse is returned with their manners, gaits and performance "polished" by the trainer, who has taught the horse all the correct, subtle cues by handling them on a daily basis. The owner, on the other hand, has been waiting anxiously for the return of their "new and improved" horse, but they have received no training, do not know how to ask for all the great things their horse has learned, and they have not been taught the skills on how to partner with their horse in an effective, productive manner.

I offer specialized training for both the horse and rider using these steps:

  • Consultation to discuss the expectations of the owner for their horse
  • Evaluation of the current status for both the horse and the owner/rider
  • Establish an action plan based on the initial consultation and evaluation
  • Training is started for the horse, and lessons are also started for the rider
  • The horse is trained using natural horsemanship techniques, and is correctly taught to "read" the subtle cues used in groundwork and under saddle.
  • The rider is taught fundamental riding/handling skills in combination with balance and body strengthening by using a variety of "fun" exercises (such as yoga) while learning!
  • Horse and rider will progress to the next level together, learning to become a team.
  • The final evaluation is completed when the horse and rider have achieved their goals!

I look forward to hearing from motivated horse owners who would like to achieve a partnership with their horse that lasts beyond the first months after a horse is trained at a remote location. These techniques help you acquire life-long skills that partner you with your horse for life!

Gail Brown was the trainer/riding instructor at my stable (Double D Stable, Mt. Pleasant, NC) for approximately three and a half years. During that time I had the pleasure of observing Gail work with her riding students (of all ages) whom she consistently related to with complete professionalism and respect, while instructing them on a variety of equestrian riding disciplines/techniques (at all levels) that she, herself, has mastered throughout her career. In addition to her instructional skills, Gail is also an exceptional horse trainer. She utilizes natural horsemanship philosophies and techniques which have proven to be a highly successful combination. The results I have seen her achieve in her training programs are quite impressive. I would highly recommend Gail Brown to anyone considering learning horsemanship as a pleasure hobby or competitive skill, as well as to horse owners who are searching for a trainer who will produce a highly desirable, competent mount.
